Services for your flute
This page contains some general descriptions of the types of work
your flute may require.
When you drop the flute off at my workshop, I shall look over the flute with you to assess its condition and explain to you the type and extent of work I feel your instrument will need.
Please choose a service from the following options.
Clean, Oil and Adjust
The flute is disassembled.
The body and keys are hand cleaned to remove tarnish and any rust.
If required, the key sections are unpinned and taken apart, tubings polished, cleaned, re-oiled and re-pinned.
The cork inside the head joint is replaced if required. (old corks tend to shrink and can shift in the head joint).
Pads are checked for leaks and adjusted where necessary.
Pads are cleaned.
Adjustments are done to the felts and corks to ensure optimum playing condition.
The flute is play tested, lightly hand polished, and is ready for
pick-up.
A clean, oil and adjust is recommended each year to keep your flute in tip-top condition.
Student Flute: $70
Student Piccolo: $70
Intermediate or pre-professional Flute: $90

Repad
This service is suitable for a flute with worn pads, which is in good mechanical condition.
The repad includes the clean, oil and adjust service plus re-padding the entire flute.
During the padding process the pads are shimmed using plastic and paper shims to ensure a perfect seal between the pad and the tone hole.
All adjustments are done after the re-padding.
The flute is play tested and lightly hand polished in readiness for return to you.
The flute must be in fairly good condition for a repad.
Corks and tails should be intact and secure and the mechanism tight. Any repairs will be charged extra.
Student Flute: $180 plus materials
Student Piccolo: $125 plus materials
Intermediate or pre-professional Flute: $225 plus materials

Complete Overhaul
This service is for a flute with extreme wear, loose keys, or other mechanical problems. This service includes:
The flute is completely stripped down. All springs, corks and tails
are removed.
The key sections are taken unpinned, steels and tubings are cleaned, re-oiled and the sections re-pinned.
Any dents, dings or scratches in the body are removed.
Any mechanical wear or problems are fixed to return the fit of the keys to a ‘like new’ condition.
The body and keys are cleaned and polished.
The fit of the foot and head joint is adjusted if required.
The cork inside head joint is replaced.
New pads, felts, corks and springs are installed and all adjustments are made.
The flute is play tested and then any minor adjustments required are done at this time. A final hand polish is given to the flute.
Student Flute: $300 plus materials
Student Piccolo: $275 plus materials
Intermediate or pre-professional Flute: $400 plus materials
